John I. Tesija – Of Counsel

Shortly after finishing law school, Mr. Tesija joined with our firm’s founder, Mr. Gary Novara, to form Novara Tesija over 30 years ago. Since that time, Mr. Tesija has primarily focused his practice in the area of Employee Benefits Law, Labor Law, and related collection services. Mr. Tesija has been providing services to multiemployer plans for over thirty years, and his long career devoted exclusively to the service of multiemployer plans provides our clients with an unrivaled wealth of experience. He is further well versed in administrative proceedings as well as litigation with respect to withdrawal liability.
Mr. Tesija received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree Cum Laude from the University of Michigan-Flint and his Juris Doctorate Cum Laude from the University of Detroit-Mercy. Mr. Tesija is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP), the American Bar Association (ABA), and the Macomb County Bar Association.

Professional Affiliations
He has appeared before state and federal district courts in Michigan and Ohio, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, as well as the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). He is licensed to practice law in Michigan, Ohio and various Federal Courts.

Mr. Tesija regularly authors client newsletters that cover legal and legislative development affecting plan operations and multiemployer plans in general. He has been a contributor the Michigan Building Tradesman, and has authored a number of instructional pieces for multiemployer plan trustees, with a particular focus on withdrawal liability and the Pension Protection Act (PPA).
