Overview

Ian Phillips has extensive experience in all aspects of insurance defense litigation, as well as experience in the review, negotiation and drafting of numerous types of investment contracts and market transactions. He also has high-level experience in private equity and securities transactions. He represents national insurance providers and multiemployer plans.

Prior to joining the firm, he was employed in the financial services area as a fully registered investment compliance officer with a focus on market transactions, client protection and regulatory affairs. He takes his direct knowledge of the financial sector and applies it to the practice of law. 

He holds multiple Michigan insurance producer licenses.

Experience

In 2020, he successfully defended a National Insurance Provider against substantial claims from multiple providers for unlawful services, resulting in the claims being dismissed by the Court.

In 2020, he successfully resolved a highly sensitive matter involving a tragedy that affected two families by using a considerate and well-mannered approach to benefit all parties, which resulted in a glowing public review from the client.

In 2018, he successfully defended an employee from a Federal Regulatory Agency’s unlawful suspension and barring of the employee for reasons that were in violation of Federal guidelines.
